Duration of Treatment

Discharge planning is an integral part of the treatment at Newmarket House. During each stage of treatment there is a continuous assessment, in collaboration with the referring team, of the eventual needs of the individual. It is essential that a support system is in place post discharge, so that they will continue to prosper once they are living independently.

Our Aftercare Service is able to provide extensive follow up, tailored to the needs of the individual, now referred to as the ‘client’. This includes support in planning a structure to the day, dietary advice and a helping hand with practicalities. Members of the Aftercare team meet the client in Chesham House, in their own home or in a social setting, to monitor progress and help them manage any anxiety. Clients continue to attend the Clinic to meet with their psychiatrist and their individual therapist. Family Therapy also continues to be available to those who require it. Contact continues, at a decreasing level, until the team is confident that the client is able to live a fully independent life without further support.

For those clients returning to other parts of the country, we liaise closely with their referring psychiatrist and team. A planning meeting is held to evaluate the aftercare resources available to the client locally to ensure that when they are discharged from Newmarket House a suitable structure is in place for them.

It is only now I can see how much I have grown and changed. So many things have been made possible through having the Clinic as a stable platform from which to take that leap of faith into the unknown. There is not a moment where I regret my time at the Clinic. I know that through the support and immense investment in me by such a committed team I am able to go out into the world considerably better equipped to deal with the highs and lows of life. (ET)
